is a particularly nasty variety of delivery often seen at the
Common - particularly when the tide is coming in. Many of its more
venomous characteristics have been mollified in the past few years by
the good work of the Gt. Yarmouth Borough Council groundstaff - but it
can still occasionally be seen. What happens is - the ball pitched just
short of a length fails to bounce at all - stranding the unwary batsman
on the back foot and resulting in an ominous clunk as the ball hits the
wicket. Quite entertaining - if you happen to be bowling at
the time!
